11-08-2009 – Impossible Football-Dream Made Possible
Written by Stefan Vervoort on November 8, 2009The alarm ringed, 8:30. Oh my god, what am I tired. Nevertheless, I jumped out of bed, grabbed my bag with gear and got to the kitchen to get myself a nice cup of yoghurt.
While I was eating, I laughed. I was thinking about the things that were going to happen during this morning. Things that were unthinkable back in the days on 28 april, 2002.
Goodbye
On 28 april, 2002 and 11 years old, I received a little statue from my football club after saying goodbye. A few weeks earlier, I was told the anterior cruciate ligament of my left knee snapped and couldn’t be fixed. The result was that I had to quit playing forever. Playing football was my life…
From that moment, football was banned from my life. I didn’t watched football on the telly, I couldn’t see my friends playing the game, never went back to my club and the little statue was placed somewhere I wouldn’t be confronted with it every day. I buried football in my memories.
Today
Today, 08 November 2009 and 19-years old, the day has come to make my return on the football-fields. I was able to play again! We won the game with 7 against 4 and my body passed the test faultless. I even scored a goal! Wonderful.
When I came home, my mother went upstairs to my chamber and took the little statue. I had totally forgotten about that statue. That was the moment I realized that I have made the impossible football-dream of a 11-year-old boy possible again.
